Broadcaster: TVO (2028)
Toronto Sound is a six-part documentary series exploring Toronto’s hip-hop history through two questions: What is the Toronto sound? And how did it develop?
Each episode is centered around a seminal song and artist, untangling the web of artistic, cultural, social, and political events that led to its creation. This approach brings the viewer into Toronto’s history to understand the influences and factors that would come to define the city’s sound in the present.
Inspired by Scenario producer Del F. Cowie’s forthcoming book on ECW Press, “This Is A Throwdown: A Toronto Hip-Hop History, From Maestro Fresh Wes to Drake,” Toronto Sound’s production team is comprised of some of the city’s most respected rap media journalists and the producers of Netflix’s Hip-Hop Evolution. Toronto Sound will come to life through incredible
music, unparalleled access, a unique aesthetic treatment, and the energy and deep first-hand knowledge of a true Toronto production. In sum: it’s the doc series that the city deserves.
